German IV Honors

German IV Honors, has been designed for the student who has successfully completed German III and wants to further his/her knowledge on a more advanced level. The goal of German IV honors is to continue the development of all the language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Reading plays a primary role throughout this course and focuses on “authentic texts” such as advertisements, charts, newspaper and magazine articles, post cards, letters, polls, interviews, biographies, songs, poems, folktales and fiction. These texts will challenge each student to use all his/her linguistic skills as well as native reading skills. Essential grammar concepts will be reinforced and advanced grammatical structures will be introduced. The program will provide activities geared toward cooperative work within a learner-centered classroom. Students will be provided with a clear focus on the important role played by Germany, Switzerland, and Austria in the industrial world, and will gain an insight into the many career opportunities available to them through their German language studies.  Students who successfully complete this course are prepared to take the German AP Language and Culture course, or pursue further studies of German at the university level.
